There a few things more beautiful than exquisitely made jewellery, but when it is set with 7,801 conflict-free, natural diamonds, like ‘the Divine 7801 Brahma Vajra Kamalam’ designed by Kotti Srikanth of Hallmark Jewellers that has now set a new Guinness World Record, it becomes a truly exceptional work of art.
The idea for a record-breaking, diamond-studded ring was first conceived in September of 2018. Kotti chose a flower as his design inspiration due to his cultural beliefs. “In India, we have a tradition of respecting our Gods with garlands of flowers and individual flowers are used as an offering. The flowers signify the essence of purity,” Kotti explained. “We worked with many flower-based designs. Of these [the] Camellia design allowed an amalgamation of traditional and contemporary thought and had most visual appeal.”
Once the design of the ring had been agreed upon, the Hallmark Jewellers team used computer-aided design (CAD) to figure out how many diamonds they would need to create the ring they had designed. This initial planning process took about 45 days. By March 2019, the ring base was completed.
They then went on to confirm the exact diamond requirement and in May 2019, after they had gotten all the information they need, they started procurement of diamonds. Part of these requirements is that all diamonds to be used must be conflict-free. This is always done for any of diamond-related records.
“This exercise took a good deal of time as we wanted all the diamonds to be homogeneous,” says Kotti. “We received the final ring in August 2019 and gave it the finishing touches at our facility in Hyderabad.”
The makers submitted the ring to the Guinness World Record last year and after several rounds of verification, the honour of the ‘Most Diamonds Set in One Ring’ title has now been bestowed upon it. The institution’s Facebook page also shared a video focusing on the process and the hard work that went into making the ring.
“I am very honoured and thankful to the Guinness World Records for recognizing my passion to create unique pieces of art. It gives me immense pleasure to get awarded at a global level for a masterpiece I created,” said Kotti upon receiving the news. “Jewellery is my passion. I simply love creating new concepts and converting them into wearable jewellery. [Being a] Guinness World Records title holder is a lifetime achievement in itself.”
It is not clear for now if The Divine 7801 Brahma Vajra Kamalam will ever be sold. The previous record-setting ring, the Lotus Temple Ring by Lakshikaa Jewels, also in India is valued at 4.9million USD. It contains 7,777 diamonds.
