Samsung, the South Korean electronic devices giant, has released LivingColour, a collection of six paints designed to provide harmonious backdrops to three of the company’s television models – The Serif, The Sero and The Frame, a TV that displays digital art and photography when not in use. The LivingColour paint range was created by Samsung in collaboration with British colour expert Karen Heller.
Each TV model has been given two shades. One shade is meant to perfectly match the TV’s casing, while the other is a complementary hue that can be applied to walls surrounding the TV. Colours accompanying The Frame are Frame Beige – ‘a light and airy tone, providing reliability and a sense of being grounded’ – and Restful Pine – ‘a peaceful and restorative green to promote feelings of safety and harmony.’ For The Serif, it is the Serif Cotton Blue, ‘a soft blue-grey with an understated quality that’s restful for the psyche’ and Champagne Bliss, ‘soft pink hues [that] provide a gentle energy to soothe and relax the mind.’ The Sero television has been paired with Sero Navy Blue, ‘a dark blue tone to aid focus and concentration’, and Bright Spark, ‘a cool yellow with a lively, can-do attitude. Full of optimism and energy.’
Samsung says the overall palette of the paint collection is meant to “elicit an uplifting emotional response”, particularly as the pandemic is forcing us to spend an increasing amount of time indoors. “Colour is an amazing phenomenon that can change how we feel, think, and behave in an instant…it’s a universal language that we all speak,” added Haller. “The colour pairings for Samsung’s range of Lifestyle TVs were selected to match the personality and style of each TV, whilst also creating an environment that would be uplifting and ultimately complement your personality and lifestyle.”
To demonstrate how the Lifestyle TVs and the LivingColour paints can create a beautiful, stylish and positive living space, Samsung invited three figures from the creative industries to create living room set-ups using the paints. This included interior designer Kate Watson-Smyth, musician and stylist Whinnie Williams and designer Yinka Ilori.
Watson-Smyth and Williams’ rooms lent towards a more vintage aesthetic, with both choosing the colours for The Frame and The Serif respectively, while Illori’s space – which featured The Sero colour palette – boasts graphic-art prints, patterned rugs and brightly-hued furnishings.
It is not immediately clear if LivingColour would be available for sale outside the UK before the end of the year, or if Samsung plans to start selling its paints commercially. For now, the paints can be obtained free-of-charge from Friday 26th October 2020 when you purchase any Lifestyle TV from the Samsung KX Space in Kings Cross, London. In our honest and humble opinion, however, Samsung may be more successful selling LivingColour separately from their TVs.
