Las Vegas Glitters with Luxurious Gold-Adorned Donuts

When it comes to epicurean opulence, few places in the world can top Las Vegas. The resort city’s famed haute cuisine restaurants are awash in expensive edibles like black truffles, Kobe beef, and foie gras. Now, a bit west of the Strip, add gold-decorated donuts to the list.

Through to Valentine’s Day, Donut Mania, a local boutique that specializes in deep-fried yeasty dough, is offering upscale sweet treats adorned with edible 24K gold leaf and dust. The fritters are made even more fabulous with an infusion of sparkling Perrier-Jouët Champagne before they are finished with seasonally themed icing designs and metallic bling.

Usually, American donuts feature more down-to-earth toppings like sugar sprinkles, chopped nuts and shredded coconut—not one of the most precious commodities on the planet.

If decorating confections with gold sounds like something an engineer would dream up for dessert, it’s with good reason. Donut Mania is owned by Brett Raymer, one of the stars of the Tanked reality TV series on the Animal Planet network. On the show, Raymer and his cohorts create enormous aquariums for upscale restaurants and celebrity mansions. So showmanship and flair are part of his everyday life, even when it comes to Sin City donuts.

“If there is anywhere in the world you can indulge in a donut infused with Champagne and dusted with gold, it’s Las Vegas. We do over-the-top luxury like no one else,” said Raymer.

The donuts must be pre-ordered for freshness, and run a shiny $15 a pop.
