And yet, the Rolls Royce Cameo appears to be a missed opportunity.
There is just something about a Rolls Royce that makes you want to hop in on a quiet Sunday morning for a leisurely spin on winding roads flanked by lush greenery. Sadly, not many would get the chance to live out this dream for various reasons. The automaker knows, and this may or may not have inspired the all-new Cameo, a miniature collectible piece inspired by the automaker’s heritage.
The Rolls Royce Cameo isn’t just simply a miniature, open-top sculpture: its ‘lego-style’ approach means that owners can assemble and disassemble it on their own, making it much more than an objet d’art.
The Cameo is crafted from solid oak and polished aluminum mirroring the iconic two-tone finish of Rolls Royce vehicles. In assembling the pieces, owners will find out that the oak body magnetically connects to the aluminium chassis, a symbolic feature that depicts exactly how each vehicle the brand produces comes together. Going in, owners will find an interior 3D-printed in Grace White, a signature Rolls Royce hue. There is a cute little driver in the cockpit that helps you live out the dream for you. The Cameo even includes self-levelling wheel caps that keep the ‘RR’ monogram upright, even as the wheels turn.
Yohan Benchetrit, Bespoke Designer at Rolls-Royce says, “Cameo captures the fundamental principles of Rolls Royce styling in a playful sculptural piece. It’s crafted to captivate and delight, bringing our artistry into clients’ homes.”
While he is right, we can only wonder: what if the Cameo was designed to be a customisable piece instead of just a miniature representation of vintage open-tops? Wouldn’t it have offered a more delightful experience for end users and even inspire future custom requests?
While that is a question for Rolls Royce to ponder, we can admit that it is definitely an upgrade — in the playful department at least — from its 2020 customisable miniature Cullinan which was only accessible to customers who purchased the actual auto.
Rolls Royce does not have a quoted price on its website for the Cameo, but, per Motor1, a dealer is listing the model for $5,500 which is way cheaper than any marque from the British brand today.
If you think this is a steal, you should consider quickly sealing the deal. Something tells us that it won’t be on the market for long.
