LG has officially announced a portable air purifier that you can wear on your face like a mask. Dubbed the PuriCare™ Wearable Air Purifier, it will be unveiled at IFA 2020. (Internationale Funkausstellung Berlin, or the Berlin Radio Show)
According to its press release, the LG PuriCare Wearable Air Purifier resolves the dilemma of homemade masks being of inconsistent quality and disposable masks being in short supply. The PuriCare Wearable Air Purifier employs two H13 HEPA filters, similar to the filters used in the company’s home air purifier products.
So, how does it work?
High-performance replaceable filters enable the PuriCare Wearable to supply fresh, clean air indoors and out. It houses Dual Fans, which allows users to take in clean, filtered air, and a patented Respiratory Sensor that detects the cycle and volume of the wearer’s breath and adjusts the dual three-speed fans accordingly. The fans automatically speed up to assist air intake and slow down to reduce resistance when exhaling to make breathing effortless. Both the fans and the Respiratory Sensor are powered by an 820mAh battery which offers up to eight hours of operation in low mode and two hours on high at a temperature of 25 degree Celsius.
Would it fit?
Never mind the battery or the sensor or even the fans: LG assures that it will without feeling heavy or bulky. The PuriCare Wearable has been ergonomically designed based on extensive facial shape analysis and would fit snugly on the user’s face to minimize air leakage around the nose and chin.
How will it be kept clean?
LG’s innovative personal air solution comes with a case that helps maintain hygiene between uses. Equipped with UV-LED lights that kill harmful germs, the one-of-a-kind case can even charge the mask and sends a notification to the LG ThinQ mobile app (Android/iOS) when the filters need to be replaced for peak performance. But the mask doesn’t just give you fresh air; it is also conscious of the environment. Every component of LG PuriCare Wearable – from its filters to its ear straps – is replaceable and recyclable.
LG’s doesn’t say exactly when the mask will be released or how much it will cost but says that there will be a virtual exhibition of its latest innovations, including the LG PuriCare Wearable Air Purifier, on its website. Perhaps, prices will be announced then.
