Yoon Ahn is no stranger to collaboration. The jeweller and designer, who co-founded her own label Ambush with her partner Verbal, has lent her creative eye to brands all over the globe (including Nike, Off-White and Sacai). Now, the Tokyo-based designer has channelled her talents into a new partnership, reinterpreting Italian luxury house Bvlgari’s iconic Serpenti in a capsule collection of accessories that launched on the 11th of August, 2020.
Inspired by three pythons she came across in her research of Bvlgari’s Serpenti, the collection features a series of multifunctional bags with interchangeable straps, as well as cardholders, wallets, pouches and cuffs that, quite literally, snake around the arm. Soft, plush leather with cloud-like curves decorates each of Ahn’s revised Serpenti bags, held up by a metal handle that resembles the skin of a snake. Each bag can be worn around the waist, slung over the shoulder or held as a clutch, reflecting the kind of versatility and practicality so many modern women are after today.
Looking to nature, Ahn’s collection also references her love of neon which she says she discovered in the pythons themselves. Each bag is available in pigmented hues of bright green, fuchsia pink and sky blue, but there are versions in pared-back shades of black, white and metallic silver too.
Like its jewellery, recognisable for Bvlgari’s seamless integration of different stones and rich colours, Ahn’s capsule collection injects the house’s accessories with a similar appreciation of the vivid hues able to uplift us in the natural world and the luxury one.
The capsule collection is available for pre-order at Bulgari.com.
