Following a now-established tradition, the house of Bvgalri unveiled a new high-jewellery collection earlier this month. Naturally, due to Covid-19, the brand was unable to hold its typical event, and instead opted for a digital release of the new collection—via a dedicated app.
However, Barocko, the name of Bvgalri’s latest high-jewellery collection, is anything but traditional. Shunning conventional solemn designs which is a primary feature of high-jewelleries, Barocko is the ultimate expression of the Baroque artistic style, an era from which it draws inspiration. Each piece is voluptuous, complex and mesmerisingly geometric, with intricate designs and sophisticated settings that immediately attract and hold your attention.
Additionally, the breadth and scope of the collection—with smaller capsule collections within—is mind-boggling. The pieces in the Colore [colour] line alone are mesmerizing. They play on light, bringing fancy shapes to the forefront in vivid hues and in motifs that are both whimsical and almost unimaginable—underscoring the immense talent that is Bulgari.
The Meraviglia [wonder] line is a collection of rubies, sapphires, emeralds and diamonds which take centre stage in pieces designed to reflect drapery, lace and seductive arabesques. Pieces in the Luce [light] line use stones to their optimal setting style in order to let as much light shimmer as possible. Key among them is the Serpenti Spell diamond bracelet which took 500hours to complete, and the Raggio di Luce ring that features a kite-shaped yellow diamond as the centre stone, surrounded by extraordinary white and yellow diamonds.
It is important to note that some of the pieces in the collection offer “en tremblant” settings, where pieces actually move or sway with the wearer’s movement. This very difficult setting requires perfect metal-working so that tailored “joints” enable the movement. Other pieces in the collection are transformable—featuring parts that can be detached and worn differently, as in a pendant the can be removed from a necklace to form a choker. Even at this high-jewelled level of expertise, versatility counts.
Each piece in this over-50 piece collection is very dramatic and ultimately desirable. Unfortunately, Bvlgari is not disclosing prices – well, except to the ultimate qualified buyers.
